Top 5 places to visit in South Australia

Buy SA Week

As a first aid trainer and comedian who travels across South Australia, I've had the chance to discover some truly amazing spots that showcase the best of what our state has to offer.

We’ve just celebrated
Buy SA Week, so I wanted to share my top 5 favourite stops to make when you’re travelling around South Australia. Each for their own specific reasons.

For me, these local gems represent everything that makes South Australia special: innovation, quality, community spirit, and a healthy dose of fun. Just like my approach to first aid training.

1 Haigh’s Chocolate

Haigh's Chocolates South Australia

Let's be honest, if you know South Australia and you know chocolate, you know Haigh's Chocolates. It's one of those iconic names that locals and visitors alike can't go past. With over 110 years of chocolate-making history, there's a reason this place has become synonymous with South Australian quality.

I love stopping at the Parkside store because if you're lucky, you might catch them actually making the chocolate! There's something pretty special about seeing the process. Whether you're grabbing a quick treat or picking up gifts, Haigh's just hits different when you know it's made right here in SA.

2 Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Art Centre – Shakka the Shark Experience

Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Art Centre Sharks

If you're heading up to Port Augusta or Whyalla, the Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Art Centre is absolutely worth a detour. The shark museum is such a fun experience. I mean, where else are you going to see a life-sized replica of a 5.5-metre Great White?

I didn't get to try the VR shark cage diving experience when I was there, but it's definitely on my list for the next visit. If you can't make it down to Port Lincoln to actually swim with the sharks, this might just be the next best thing!

3 Willunga Farmers Market

Willunga Farmers Market in South Australia

If you're ever in the area on a Saturday morning, the Willunga Farmers Market is an absolute must. South Australia's first farmers market, and honestly, they've nailed it. The local produce here is incredible, perfect for a weekend brekky stop.

But here's the real insider tip: you can't go past grabbing a kilo of strawberries! Fresh, local, and ridiculously good. I've lost count of how many times I've rolled up here and grabbed a box of strawberries.

4 Wirra Wirra Vineyards

Wirra Wirra in South Australia

Wirra Wirra was actually one of the first wineries I visited when I moved to SA, and I just love going back. I'm pretty lucky that McLaren Vale isn't too much of a drive for me, so I can pop down on weekends, but I always make sure to stop here when I'm in the area.

The staff are absolutely lovely. They really know their stuff and make you feel welcome whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth. And if you've got kids with you, you can't beat the open space to let them run around while the adults enjoy a glass. And on special occasions, they even fire a watermelon from the catapult.

5 Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at The Bend

Motorspot Part at the Bend

I love cars, and there's nothing better than being able to take your own car on a proper track and see what it can do. Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at The Bend lets you do exactly that.

But even if you're not into the driving experiences, it's just a great place to stop for a bite to eat or get up close to some absolutely stunning cars at the museum.
